Planning Your Uxmal Journey
-
The drive from Mérida to Uxmal takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes, depending on traffic and your pickup location.
-
Uxmal opens at 8:00 AM, as do most archaeological sites in Mexico. We recommend an early departure from Mérida so you can arrive around opening time and explore before the hottest part of the day and the larger crowds arrive.
Starting early also gives you more flexibility if you would like to continue to a cenote, another archaeological site in the Puuc Region, a historic hacienda, or enjoy a relaxed local lunch.
-
Most visits to Uxmal take approximately 2 hours, although there is no need to rush.
Because your journey is private, your guide can adjust the pace depending on your interests, whether you would like a general introduction or more time to explore the architecture, history, and details of the site.
-
Yes. Uxmal can easily be combined with a cenote, a historic Yucatecan hacienda, or both, depending on how you would like to spend the day.
You can cool off with a swim in a cenote, discover the history of one of Yucatán’s haciendas, enjoy a local lunch, or combine several of these experiences along the way.
-
Yes. Uxmal can be combined with other remarkable archaeological sites in the Puuc Region, including Kabah, Sayil, and Labná.
These sites receive far fewer visitors than Uxmal, yet they are well worth exploring. They offer impressive Puuc architecture, fascinating details, and the opportunity to experience ancient Maya cities in a much quieter setting.
You can visit one additional site or spend more of the day exploring the region, depending on your interests and preferred pace.
-
Yes. Uxmal can be a wonderful experience for families with children.
Since the journey is private, we can adjust the pace, take breaks when needed, and shape the day around your family rather than following the schedule of a larger group.
-
We recommend comfortable walking shoes, lightweight clothing, sun protection, and a hat. Bringing a swimsuit is also a good idea if your journey includes a cenote.
-
Yes. Food can be part of the experience in different ways. We can stop at a local restaurant, try street food or something interesting we discover along the way, or, when arranged in advance, enjoy a home-cooked meal with a local family.
Vegetarian and vegan options can also be accommodated, as well as other dietary restrictions. Just let us know in advance, and we’ll help arrange or find a suitable place based on your dietary needs.
